Leading cutting tool company Sandvik Coromant has expanded its CoroMill® MS20 shoulder milling concept to include the GC1230 grade specifically designed for ISO P materials. This true 90-degree shoulder milling solution delivers exceptional performance in steel machining from roughing to finishing, along with the highest levels of security, versatility and productivity.
CoroMill® MS20 combines high-quality cutter bodies and precision-engineered inserts to achieve excellent surface finishes and wall quality in repeated shoulder milling operations. The robust cutter body enables high tolerances on axial and radial run-out, improving component quality and reducing scrap. Produced using the latest pressing technologies, these inserts offer greater dimensional accuracy, further increasing insert life and component quality.
"CoroMill® MS20 has already proven its value in machining ISO M and ISO S materials. The addition of the GC1230 grade makes it the first choice for ISO P applications, particularly in general engineering and the automotive sector," says Sangram Dash, Global Product Manager for Indexable Milling Tools at Sandvik Coromant. "Due to its versatility, it is ideal for various applications, such as repeated shoulder milling, face milling, linear and helical ramping, full slotting, and plunging."
The GC1230 steel milling grade is engineered using advanced coating and substrate technologies that give it outstanding wear resistance and exceptional edge-line security. User benefits include predictable tool life and consistent performance, even under the most demanding conditions. "The insert wear pattern is gradual and reliable, which reduces unplanned tool changes and increases productivity," explains Dash.
"You should never make any compromises when it comes to shoulder milling," concludes the manager. "Whether your priority is to optimize machining security and reliability, increase productivity, or improve cost efficiency, the CoroMill® MS20 shoulder milling concept is for you."
The CoroMill® MS20 assortment includes cutter bodies from 15.8 to 84 mm (with inch equivalents), along with a new cylindrical shank option with integrated Silent Tools™ dampening, to offer even more stability and improved performance in the most demanding operations. The insert range features optimized geometries for steel, stainless steel, and heat-resistant superalloys.
